The world’s ability to adapt to a changing climate is in dire need of funding. And yet, historically, adaptation finance has only made up around one-tenth of total climate finance. Sustainable bonds can play a vital role in helping to bring private finance in to invest in climate change adaptation, according to Dennis Sugrue, senior director and global insurance ESG lead at S&P Global Ratings. Public finance issuers can lead the way – together with multilateral lending institutions – to kick-start more investment in climate adaptation.
